Solar technologies

Australian scientists have created a new type of cheap solar panels

The researchers from the University of Newcastle in Australia have developed home solar panels that cost 30 times cheaper than equivalent from Tesla Company. Now the ambitious project is passing the final stage of the tests. It is known, that solar power is gaining a lot of popularity in the United States and Europe. Thus, the developers tend to come up with new advanced technologies related to home solar energy, which in the future could be available to every resident.

One of the distinctive features of the new type of home solar batteries is their low price. According to Paul Dastur from the University of Newcastle, the battery will cost only 7.42 US dollar per square meter. This price is approximately 30 times lower than the price of batteries from Tesla. In addition, the battery of the new type is very thin.

“This given characteristic completely distinguishes them from conventional solar panels, because usually they are large, heavy and enclosed in glass of tens of millimeters. We print the battery on a plastic film, which is less than 0.1 millimeters thick!”, — said Paul Dastur.

Solar panels conduct electricity thanks to the electronic ink. “Get the energy with the help of a invention is cheaper than to get it from fossil fuels”, — explain the developers, who are now busy with the final testing of new products. The first public demonstration of the new home solar batteries will be held in summer in Melbourne.

“Now we put the first 100 square meters of printed solar panels on the roofs, and at the moment we test their strength in real weather conditions”, — pointed out Paul Dastur.
